Consistent One-on-One Training
Each Comet Service Dog is trained by one person. This allows us to be extremely consistent with each dog, to accelerate the learning process, and allows us to work with the unique qualities of each dog's personality. This close relationship aids us in matching an appropriate client to each Service Dog.
Real World Training
Comet trains dogs in real world situations using modern scientific training techniques. Each Comet Service Dog lives in our homes rather than in kennels. They are exposed, day in and day out, to the routine of daily life in a household. They learn manners and skills that can only be taught in the home. They are able to work around distractions and remain easy to handle.
Comet conducts formal training in public places such as office buildings, stores, parks, garages, and urban streets as well as the specific environment of our clients. They have been introduced to a wide variety of people and animals. They are reliable despite exposure to high levels of distraction. Our dogs are experienced travelers in cars, buses, trains and airplanes. This continuous immersion in real world situations exposes our dogs to almost anything our client may encounter.
As with people, dogs learn in a variety of ways. Our acute awareness of each dog's personality allows for flexible training that brings out the best qualities in each dog.
Scientifically-Based Training
Every person on our staff has a working knowledge of the Science of Behavioral Psychology, the discipline that explains how organisms learn. We believe this science provides the best contemporary insight into effective dog training methods. We are well-versed in canine paralanguage, canine behavior and the application of theory that we refer to as the Art of Training.
